One of my favorite things to make with my kids is easy origami animals. I just love the fact that all you need really is some basic craft materials that you can find in your house, colored paper, scissors, and a marker!
Now you just need an easy origami step by step guide on how to make you favorite origami animals.
Provided in this article, are several easy origami animals step-by-step tutorials for you and your kids origami making fun. This also provides opportunities for parent-child communication while having fun. So let’s start folding!
Origami paper is usually a square shape, if you are using paper that is not square, you can use 8.5 x 11 color paper fold in the broken line, and cut the excess rectangle, then you can create a square.

1. Easy Cat Origami
This is an easy origami cat that uses 1 piece of paper for the cat head. The result is a
Step 1- Fold the paper in half by folding the bottom corner to the top corner and crease well.
Step 2- Fold in half again by folding left corner to right corner and unfold.
Step 3- Take the right point and bring it up and to the right at an angle away from the top point. Do the same on another side. This will serve as the ears of the cat.
Step 4- Fold a portion of the top corner down.
Step 5- Flip the paper and the origami cat face is complete!
Step 6- Yehey! you can draw a cute cat face on it and other details that you prefer.
Create this easy origami cat and you can give it to your friend who is a cat lover, for sure he/she will love it. You can also use this as a book/notebook marker. It will remind you of the fun you had while creating this easy origami cat with your kids.
2. Easy Horse Origami
This easy origami horse is one of the best-looking, and it's also fairly simple to fold. However, have a few more stages than the typical simple origami, and there are some inside reverse folds.
Don't panic if you don't know what an inside reverse fold is. It's easy, as the step-by-step instructions provided.
Step1- Start with a square piece of origami paper and fold the paper in half from top corner to bottom corner.
Step 2- Fold in half again from the left corner to the right corner.
Step 3- Fold the top sheet into a squash fold. Then open the top layer and fold down while creasing the sides.
Step 4- Flip over the paper.
Step 5 - Squash fold the other flap. To do this, make the left flap stand vertically, then open up and squash down.
Step 6 - Fold the right and left sides of the upper layer to the center.
Step 7 - Fold the top corner down.
Step 8 - Unfold the top and sides.
Step 9 - With a scissors, cut only the upper layer straight down the middle of the broken line, but stop at the top crease or in the straight line. Careful not to cut anything else.
Step 10 - Fold up the flaps that you just cut as shown in the picture.
Step 11 - Fold the left and right sides along the crease to the center.
Step 12 - Turn it over.
Step 13 - Fold the left and right sides to the center.
Step 14 - Fold the top down.
Step 15 - Just like in step 9 With a scissors, cut only the upper layer straight down the middle of the broken line, but stop at the top crease or in the straight line. Careful not to cut anything else.
Step 16 - Fold the flaps again.
Step 17 - Fold the flaps along the crease to the center.
Step 18 - Rotate upside down
Step 19 - This will serve as the head, with an inside reverse fold. Open the left tip a little so you can bend a small portion of it down, then bend the tip in and crease the sides.
Step 20 - Fold the tail down as shown.
Step 21 - Unfold the Tail
Step 22 - Inside reverse fold the tail. To do this, open the tail and fold down at the crease, then crease together.
Step 23 - Great job! Neigh, neigh!

3. Easy Pig Origami
The easy origami pig requires basic folds, no squash, inside or reverses outside folds and the result is adorable.
Step 1 - Start with a square piece of origami paper and make two folds on a diagonal axis crease well and unfold.
Step 2 - Fold the side corner and meet in the center.
Step 3 - Bring the half into half down to meet the bottom, folding the paper half.
Step 4 - Make the fold at the dashed line as shown.
Step 5 - Fold down the tip of the nose and fold the top half of the paper only. For the ears fold towards the two corners.
Step 6 - Your easy pig origami is completed! Now for the fun part, it’s time to decorate!
This easy pig origami is one of the easiest origami animals on this list, and as a bonus you can even attach a popsicle stick at the back and use it for puppet or three little pig storytelling.
4. Easy Lion Origami
The king of the forest, the easy lion origami
Step 1 - Start with a square sheet of origami paper and Fold the left half to the right, corner to corner, then unfold.
Step 2 - Fold the top half down, then unfold again.
Step 3 - Fold a part of the bottom corner up as shown in the picture.
Step 4 - Fold the right and left corners in the above horizontal crease just like in the picture.
Step 5 - Flip the paper horizontally.
Step 6 - Fold down the top part, beginning slightly below the halfway crease.
Step 7 - Flip the lion over.
Step 8 - Ready to draw the details.
This Origami lion is a favorite easy origami for boys in particular. Let me hear you Roarrr!
5. Easy Crab Origami
Just so you know, you can't eat this one :) The easy crab origami is great to do as a summer origami.
Step 1 - Start with a square sheet of origami paper and Fold the paper in half
Step 2 - Fold the paper again
Step 3 - Open up the top flap of paper over to the right.
Step 4 - Squash fold this flap flat.
Step 5 - Flip the paper over. Open up the top flap of paper over to the left and Squash Fold it flat.
Step 6 - Fold the top two flaps of paper behind along the dotted lines.
Step 7 - Flip the paper.
Step 8 - Fold the bottom part like in the image.
Step 9 - Fold the side flaps of paper down.
Step 10 - Flip the paper.
Step 11 - Your crab is missing something so it’s time to add some features.
The easy origami crab won't bite :) It's a very easy origami animal, and provides lots of character with their beady eyes. Make them in a few colors so they have some crab friends!
6. Easy Shark Origami
Step 1 - Start with a square piece of origami paper and fold it in two, putting the opposite corners together to form a diagonal fold.
Step 2 - Fold one side inwards aligning the edge with the center crease.
Step 3 - Do the same on the other side.
Step 4 - Fold the lower corner up to meet the upper one.
Step 5 - Fold the corner up to meet the middle one.
Step 9 - Fold the corner on each side.
Step 10 - Fold the workpiece in two along the very first diagonal fold and unfold the cut dorsal fin of shark.
Step 11 - Fold one part of the ‘tail’ to the side.
Step 12 - Draw the eyes and the predatory grin. The origami shark is ready!
7. Easy Snake Origami
Step 1 - Start with a square piece of origami paper and fold the dotted lines and unfold.
Step 2 - Fold the centerline.
Step 3 - Fold to meet the centerline.
Step 4 - Unfold.
Step 5 - Fold the bottom part till the broken line.
Step 6 - Fold the in the dotted line.
Step 7 - Fold in the dotted line.
Step 8 - Fold the same 5, 6, and 7 steps.
Step 9 - Fold in half
Step 10 - Ready to draw eyes or glue googly eyes
8. Easy Rabbit Origami
Step 1 - Start with a square piece of origami paper and Fold the paper in half by folding the bottom corner to the top corner, then unfold.
Step 2 - Now fold the left corner to the right corner, then unfold.
Step 3 - Fold a small portion of the triangle base up as shown.
Step 4 - Fold the left and right bottom edges up at the center as shown. These are the origami rabbit ears.
Step 5 - Turn the figure over.
Step 6 - Fold the top corner and bottom of the head down as shown.
Step 7 - Turn the figure and fold the left and right side.
Step 8 - Turn the figure over. Ready to draw on the face and you're done.
9. Easy Bear Origami
Step 1 - Start with a square piece of origami paper and Fold the paper in half by folding the bottom corner to the top corner.
Step 2 - Fold in half diagonally again the other direction and unfold
Step 3 - Take the top corner and fold it in about halfway
Step 4 - Do the same to the other side.
Step 5 - Now fold the same corners back out the other direction and do the same on the other side.
Step 7 - Fold the same corners down once more
Step 8 - Fold only one layer of the bottom corner up
Step 9 - Turm the paper
Step 10 - Fold the other layer of the bottom corner up
Step11 - Fold the top layer up once more to create an area for the mouth.
Step 12 - Ready to add some eyes, nose, and a mouth
